Continuing tradition…and keeping London in books

There has been a book shop at 56 Charing Cross since the 1920s, if not earlier.

56 Charing Cross Road in the 1920s, when the shop was owned by the folklorist AH Mayhew. The entrance, lighting and staff attire have changed since then, but we still have our shelves of books outside the shop.
