Work with us:
We don't currently have any regular full time or part time bookseller vacancies available at the bookshop.
Please email these to Michael here.
Please note that we don't normally consider any applications without some previous bookshop or bookselling experience, and we don't offer any unpaid internships, as we don't believe in unpaid work, and we don't have the capacity to offer work experience as a small shop.

About us:
Bookshop Director:
Gillian McMullan
Gill has been the manager of Any Amount of Books since 1998, and Bookshop Director / owner since 2019. She has been involved in bookselling throughout her working life.
When not working she is reading.
Operations Director:
Michael, unlike Gill, does not have an extensive background in books. Michael oversees the online sales, and makes sure that the systems and operational side of the shop run as smoothly as possible.
If this website isn't working properly, it's his fault.

Continuing tradition…and keeping London in books
There has been a book shop at 56 Charing Cross since the 1920s, if not earlier.
56 Charing Cross Road in the 1920s, when the shop was owned by the folklorist AH Mayhew. The entrance, lighting, signs and staff attire have changed a bit since since then, but like Mr Mayhew, we still put some of our books outside the shop each morning.

A note for agents, publishers and authors :
We are a secondhand bookshop, we don't sell any new publications and can't stock your newly published book, sorry.
We also don't host book launches, signings, readings, or other similar events. We have quite small spaces and its not really the venue for this.
